About this product
The Akai Professional APC40 is a tabletop DJ mixer and MIDI controller designed for Ableton Live. It features 8 channels of control, USB audio interface capabilities, and a professional layout with faders, knobs, and buttons for clip launching and mixing. The console/tabletop form factor makes it suitable for studio and live performance. This unit is pre-owned but offers hands-on control over Ableton's mixer and effects, with a focus on live performance workflow.
Our take
The APC40 is a classic for a reason. It gives me direct hands-on control over Ableton's mixer and clip launcher—eight channels with faders, knobs, and buttons. The integration is deep; I can map almost anything. Build quality is decent, but being used, some faders feel a bit loose. The USB audio interface is basic but functional for monitoring. One downside: it's large and not very portable. Also, it's specifically for Ableton—other DAWs need manual mapping. For $199 used, it's still a powerful tool for live sets, but newer controllers offer more features in a smaller package.
